Reflections on joint pain.

Curing arthritis is a no-brainer!’ says Bob Butts of Dr. Batmanghelidj’s watercure fame. What is arthritis? It’s when two bones rub together. Why do they rub together? Because the cartilage that is found where two bones meet has been worn away. What is cartilage made of? Water and salt mainly. That’s why the late, great Dr. Batmanghelidj said.

“Rheumatoid joint pain – arthritis – is a signal of water shortage in the painful joint. It can affect the young as well as the old. The use of pain-killers does not cure the problem, but exposes the person to further damage from pain medications. Intake of water and small amounts of salt will cure this problem.

Low Back Pain and Ankylosing Arthritis of the Spine are signs of water shortage in the spinal column and discs – the water cushions that support the weight of the body. These conditions should be treated with increased water intake – not a commercial treatment, but a very effective one.

Not recognizing arthritis and low back pain as signs of dehydration in the joint cavities and treating them with pain-killers, manipulation, acupuncture, and eventually surgery will, in time, produce osteoarthritis when the cartilage cells in the joints have eventually all died. It will produce deformity of the spine. It will produce crippling deformities of the limbs. Pain medications have their own life-threatening complications.”

At the clinic in London that I used to work out of, we had dozens of arthritis patients who were so badly affected that they couldn’t get more than a few hours sleep each night before being woken up with pain. We used to prescribe cannabis tincture, which they said helped them greatly to sleep. But I would always tell them that the cannabis was not a cure and that they would need to exercise discipline in order to rebuild their water/salt levels steadily.

“Water….salt….oil!” I would tell them. That’s around 2.5 litres per day for an average sized woman and around 3+ litres per day for an average sized man. 1/3 of a level teaspoon of REAL salt per litre of water you drink. Also, most people don’t have nearly enough good oil in them, so it’s important to start taking something like hempseed oil (mentioned in a previous ACO post) or coconut oil every day. Caffeine is a killer as it dehydrates the body terribly over the years – it was no surprise to me that the vast majority of arthritis (and MS) sufferers loved to drink tea/coffee all day. On top of the water-salt-oil recommendation, I also advise balancing the Ph of the body (which usually entails eating more alkaline forming foods). And, as ever…make a great big organic salad, with lots of lovely oil and salt on it, put it in a Tupperware box in the fridge and eat some of it with your daily meals (or instead of your daily meals).
