PubMed: Antitumour activity of colloidal silver
BACKGROUND:
Colloidal silver has been used as an antimicrobial and disinfectant agent. However, there is scarce information on its antitumor potential. The aim of this study was to determine if colloidal silver had cytotoxic effects on MCF-7 breast cancer cells and its mechanism of cell death.
METHODS:
MCF-7 breast cancer cells were treated with colloidal silver (ranged from 1.75 to 17.5 ng/mL) for 5 h at 37°C and 5% CO2 atmosphere. Cell Viability was evaluated by trypan blue exclusion method and the mechanism of cell death through detection of mono-oligonucleosomes using an ELISA kit and TUNEL assay. The production of NO, LDH, and Gpx, SOD, CAT, and Total antioxidant activities were evaluated by colorimetric assays.
RESULTS:
Colloidal silver had dose-dependent cytotoxic effect in MCF-7 breast cancer cells through induction of apoptosis, shown an LD50 (3.5 ng/mL) and LD100 (14 ng/mL) (*P < 0.05), significantly decreased LDH (*P < 0.05) and significantly increased SOD (*P < 0.05) activities. However, the NO production, and Gpx, CAT, and Total antioxidant activities were not affected in MCF-7 breast cancer cells. PBMC were not altered by colloidal silver.
CONCLUSIONS:
The present results showed that colloidal silver might be a potential alternative agent for human breast cancer therapy.

Old medical quotes about colloidal silver
Many people have only recently begun to learn about the astonishing healing and infection-fighting benefits of colloidal silver but truth be told, colloidal silver’s broad-spectrum antimicrobial qualities have been known since the late 1800s when the substance was first produced.
Here’s a quick overview of what medical and clinical research experts were saying about colloidal silver over 100 years ago…
Colloidal silver use came into being shortly after Edison harnessed electricity in 1879 and researchers learned how to drive tiny silver micro-particles from pure silver rods suspended in water, by running electricity through them.
Chemical techniques for producing colloidal silver were also invented. And soon, numerous forms of colloidal silver were being used by doctors around the world, with names like Collargol, Protargol, Electrargol, Lunasol and many others.
What made colloidal silver so popular with doctors? In many cases, it was the vast panoply of infectious disease conditions which colloidal silver rapidly and quite effectively cured.
As Dr. Reynold Webb Wilcox, M.D., stated in January 1900, in the New England Medical Monthly and Prescription, in an article titled “Internal Antisepsis”:
“…colloidal silver has a very beneficial influence and often effects a rapid cure in recent and chronic sepsis and furunculosis, when secondary changes in the vital organs have not occurred.
[Doctors] have treated osteomyelitis, phlegmonous angina, furunculosis, erysipelas, so-called gonorrheal and articular rheumatism, etc., by this method.
Various reports, some very enthusiastic, have been presented; on puerperal fever (Peters, Jones, Voorhees), cerebrospinal meningitis (Schirmer),acute mastitis (Cumston), malignant scarlet fever (Crede), divers septic processes (Werler), furunculosis (Wolfram), and finally in purpura in the horse (Dieckerhoff).
Wilcox’s own experience in septic phlebitis, of which an unusually large percentage has occurred in his typhoid fever cases, has been most satisfactory… In one instance of septic phlebitis following amoebic dysentery the results were almost marvelous.”
In layman’s terms, colloidal silver cured infections of the bloodstream, infected boils, infected bone, infection-induced fevers and just about everything you could throw at it if an infectious condition was involved in the disease process.
And as Robert Bartholow wrote of silver’s astonishing infection-fighting qualities in A Practical Treatise on Materia Medica and Therapeutics, way back in 1908:
“As a topical agent, silver may be used in surgical diseases, wounds, injuries, and in cases of septic decomposition.
Wherever diseases — either pure or mixed infectious — are caused by the staphylococcus, the streptococcus, and other forms of low organisms, this remedy is effective in a high degree.”
And as also reported in 1908, in the journal Post-Graduate (Vol. 23, #10, page 911), from the New York Medical School and Hospital:
“The properties of colloidal silver are, therapeutically, the following: antiseptic, inhibiting bacterial growth, inorganic ferment exercising catalytic action.
The drug is absolutely harmless and should be used (1) when at the outset the infection assumes a serious aspect; (2) when an infection, at first localized, tends to become generalized.”
In other words, colloidal silver was used to stop infections from becoming more serious, and to stop already-serious infections from spreading.
And as Dr. William Halstead, M.D. (see image above), one of the founding fathers of modern surgery, wrote of the infection-fighting qualities of silver way back in 1913:
“We may only have scratched the surface of silver’s medical brilliance! Already it is an amazing tool!
It stimulates bone-forming cells, cures the most stubborn infections of all kinds…and stimulates healing in skin and other soft tissues.
I know of nothing which could quite take its place, nor, have I known anyone to abandon it who had thoroughly familiarized himself with the technique of its application. “
Unfortunately, it took until 1975, some 60 years later, for medical science to finally accept silver’s role in stimulating bone-forming cells, and curing stubborn tissue infections around bone breaks, thanks largely to the remarkable clinical research of Dr. Robert O. Becker, M.D. of Syracuse Medical University.
But let’s get back to the older medical quotes. As the British Medical Journal stated in February 1917:
“Colloidal silver has been used successfully in septic conditions of the mouth including pyorrhea alveolysis, throat, ear, and in generalized septicemia, leucorrhea, cystitis, whooping cough and shingles.”
It seems there was hardly any kind of infection that colloidal silver didn’t work for! As Alfred E. Searle, author of Colloids in Biology and Medicine wrote in 1919:
“Applying colloidal silver to human subjects has been done in a large number of cases with astonishingly successful results…it has the advantage of being rapidly fatal to microbes without toxic action on its host. It is quite stable. It protects rabbits from ten times the lethal dose of tetanus or diphtheria toxin.”
As researcher Fred Wilbur Tanner, stated in the journal Bacteriology and Mycology of Foods, in 1919:
“Biasiotti (1910) reported that colloidal silver electrically prepared would kill Staphylococcus aureus, B. typhi, and Bacterium diphtheria; in a few hours. The silver is probably united to the protoplasm in some way because Gram positive bacteria are made Gram negative.”
As Dr. Henry Crooks, M.D. stated in 1921:
“I know of no microbe that is not killed by silver in laboratory experiments in six minutes.”
And finally, according to the August, 1920 edition of The National Druggist, Vol. 50, page 388:
“Colloidal silver is powerfully destructive of toxins of bacterial origin …Experiments on rabbits show that colloidal silver renders subject ‘immune’ from the effects of large quantities of tetanic or diphtheritic serum.
…colloidal silver has proved its value in combating the following ailments among others — tonsilitis, gonorrhoeal conjunctivitis, spring catarrh, pustular eczema of scalp, septic ulcers of legs, boils, chronic cystiitis, ringwork, soft sores.
But we must not prolong the list of the good works of colloidal silver. Suffice it that at the present time it is the most extensively used in medicine of all the sols.”
In short, colloidal silver was the star infection-fighting agent of the early 1900’s, before the advent of prescription antibiotic drugs like sulfa and penicillin in the 1930’s and 40’s.
Silver’s Untimely Demise
and Much-Needed Resurrection
Once prescription drugs were developed and the modern pharmaceutical industry began forming, colloidal silver usage by medical doctors gradually fell out of favor.
But over the ensuing decades, as more and more bacteria began developing resistance to prescription antibiotic drugs, cutting edge doctors began looking back to the past to find out what was used before antibiotic drugs were developed. And what they found was, of course, colloidal silver.
As newer research was conducted in the 1970’s on silver as an infection-fighting agent, the interest in colloidal silver as a safe and powerful antimicrobial substance was rapidly renewed.
And today, usage of safe, natural colloidal silver has become popular with millions of Americans who have experienced its phenomenal healing and infection-fighting benefits.
What’s more, many modern-day medical doctors and clinical researchers are embracing colloidal silver usage, as well.
As Dr. Joseph Weissman, M.D. board certified immunologist and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California Medical School has stated:
“Today, many antibiotics are losing the battle with germs. Fortunately, the best germ killer, which was discovered over 2,000 years ago, is finally getting the proper attention from medical science – natural silver.
I sincerely recommend that everyone have electrically generated colloidal silver in their home as an antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal agent.”
And as Dr. Ron Surowitz, D.O., M.D., former head of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association has stated:
“Sometimes a treatment can be worse than the illness, but not in the case of Colloidal Silver.
I have my patients spray or swish Colloidal Silver in their mouths from one to three times daily, depending on the severity of their condition…or, in a dose of one quarter to one teaspoon, and even up to one tablespoon, one to three times daily for situations that are more problematic.
I also have them use it in small amounts daily as a preventative…It’s interesting how many of my patients improve with the use of Colloidal Silver. It enhances the immune system where other antibiotics cause yeast overgrowth…
…[As an example] one patient had persistent yeast infections. Having had no success with both prescription and non-prescription treatments, she called me, at her wit’s end.
I suggested that she try a douche of two teaspoons of Colloidal Silver in a quart of water. Three days later she was evaluated in my office. The symptoms of her yeast infection had vanished, and there was no visible sign of infection.”
And as Herbert Slavin, M.D., founder and director of the Institute of Advanced Medicine, Lauderhill, Florida has stated:
“…Ionic silver is increasingly being recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial qualities and the fact that it presents virtually none of the side-effects related to antibiotics.
Ionic silver is entirely non-toxic to the body…Reports of any pathogens developing resistance to ionic silver are rare. Some reports indicate it even kills drug-resistant strains of germs.
Ionic silver is also a powerful tissue-healing agent, so much so that it has been used topically for decades in burn centers and currently represents one of the fastest growing sectors – if not the fastest growing sector – in wound care today.
The fact that ionic silver is effective against a very broad range of bacteria is well established and, due to recent advances in the delivery of ionic silver together with the problems associated with antibiotics, it is being used in a rapidly growing range of dietary-supplement, medical, and industrial products.
…A study at the University of Arizona recently showed ionic silver to be effective against the coronavirus that researchers use as the surrogate for SARS.”
And as board certified Clinical Nutritionist Byron J. Richards, CCN, has stated;
“…The high efficacy in the use of silver to kill bacteria and fungus is not in question by anyone. This does not mean it kills every type of bacteria or fungus. And in the ones it does kill it does not mean it kills all of them.
It simply means that the antibiotic properties of silver are quite potent – and the risk to human health in terms of toxicity is negligible. This is a far better risk/benefit profile than commonly used antibiotics.”
Finally, as Dr. Jonathan Wright, M.D., of the famous Tahoma Clinic in Washington State has written:
“Colloidal silver just might be the next germ-fighting wonder drug. And not just for the serious threats making headlines: It’s also effective against bacterial infections like strep throat, viruses like the flu, and fungal infections like Candida.
No matter how much a germ mutates, it can’t change enough to escape the damaging effects of colloidal silver. And in the process, the silver doesn’t harm human tissue or kill off the good bacteria in the intestine the way antibiotics and other medications do…
…Beginning in the 1970s, several independent researchers found that silver ions easily destroy Candida and other fungi. But it wasn’t until a pilot study during the mid- 1990s that included human patients suffering from terminal AIDS that medical researchers established solid evidence showing just how quick and effective silver ions can be in the treatment of Candida as well as HIV.
In this study, nine individuals who were near death were divided into two subgroups. One group suffered from HIV and a terrible Candida infection. The other group suffered from both HIV and an extreme form of malnutrition (known as Wasting Syndrome).
The researchers found that in both groups the colloidal silver was capable of killing pathogens and purging the bloodstream of germ defenses in order to restore the immune system.”
In short, we have come back full circle to nature’s wonder cure for infection and disease: colloidal silver.
What worked in the beginning against infection and disease continues to work today, even as prescription antibiotic drugs continue to fall to the wayside, thanks largely to the crisis of antibiotic-resistant superbugs.

Making colloidal silver overview
To make true colloidal silver you will need to obtain either distilled, reverse osmosis or deionised waters. These have 0ppm impurities (perhaps 1 or 2 ppm but that’s ok). I use deionised water from the local motor shop or from Tesco’s. It’s cheaper at Tescos, costing only £1.10 for 2.5 litres. PPM refers to ‘parts per million’.
Pickling the container by making a quick batch of silver chloride.
‘Pickle’ the glass jar that you intend to make the colloidal silver in. I use a 5 litre beer making glass jar (why make only a pint when it takes about the same amount of time to make a gallon?). Pickling means making a quick batch of silver water inside the vessel before making the colloidal silver proper. For reasons I’m not currently sure of, some glass jars will not make colloidal silver with pure water until they have been ‘pickled’ first. Mix a few grains of sea/rock salt with water in a table spoon and then pour the saline solution into the vessel of water. This will greatly speed up the process (salt is an electrolyte that will increase conductivity of the electricity). You will soon see ‘clouds’ of silver appearing from the positive silver rod. You are seeing silver chloride being made, which has been scientifically proven in US government studies to have many health/healing/disinfectant properties. Once the water is cloudy, switch off the power, remove the rods and give it a stir/shake. The water will now be a cloudy colour. The speed at which the process occurs depends on how warm the water is (the warmer the quicker the process) and how much salt is in the water. Generally it should only take from between 5-20 minutes to make a suitable silver chloride solution.
This silver chloride can be bottled and kept for topical or internal use, however it is not true ‘colloidal’ silver. Some people say that it’s dangerous to drink silver chloride however I drank it for about 10 years and never had any problems at all (in fact it may even be more effective than colloidal silver). Nobody contests the safety and effectiveness of using silver chloride topically, so if you are in doubt, keep it for topical or household use. Your vessel is now ready for true colloidal silver making.
The process.
Fill the vessel with pure water and attach the silver rods by clipping them to the side of the jar or by using a plastic rod holder.
Take approximately 50ml of silver chloride and pour it between the two rods. This silver chloride will act as a ‘starter’ to help with conductivity. Pure water (0ppm) is not conductive, so it helps to add some electrolyte. Switch the generator on (or connect to the batteries).
As I said earlier, temperature plays a big role in how quickly the solution can be made. Some people even microwave the water in a pyrex jar before starting the process. Others leave the jar on a heating tray or in a saucepan of simmering water.
During the winter, in a cool house, the process of making 10ppm colloidal silver can take up to 8 hours but a warm house it can take only an hour or two. With microwaved water much less time. You’ll learn about how long it takes but switching the generator off and measuring the PPM with your TDS meter (don’t put it in the water until the power is switched off as it will interfere with the reading).
Once your solution is at a suitable strength (8-12ppm is a good guideline), switch off the machine, clean the wires and stir/shake the solution. Your colloidal silver is ready to be bottled.
Bear in mind that your colloidal silver may lose a few ppm over the weeks and months, so I generally make mine at 12ppm. Evidence seems to suggest that 5ppm colloidal silver is just as effective as 20ppm or higher.
The colloidal silver will turn a yellow colour if it is exposed to light and is over around 10ppm. You may wish to cover the vessel in a paper bag or something similar to block light getting to it but it’s not absolutely necessary. Avoid direct contact with bright light though.

Making ‘black’ silver gel.
Hold the front page! An amazing way to create lots of crude silver (the residue that builds up on the silver wire during the process of making colloidal silver) has been discovered by Alexandria from the Colloidal Silver Success Stories facebook group. It involves twirling some silver wire/bezel around a pencil to create a spiral. The residue (silver oxide) has been found to be profoundly effective against skin conditions, such as burns and psoriasis (even more effective than regular colloidal silver). I like to mix my residue with aloe vera and rub it into my face and body when I am out under the hot sun.
How I turn a 5 litre bottle of de-ionised water into 10ppm colloidal silver
1) Purchase a bottle of deionised water. I go to the local motor shop where they sell it as battery water.
2) Attach two silver wires to the opening at the top of the bottle.
3) Pour 50ml of pre-made colloidal silver between the silver wires as ‘starter’ (to facilitate the electrolysis).
4) Switch the colloidal silver generator on.
5) Cover the bottle in a cloth to keep out any ambient light (not essential).
6) Leave the generator running until the PPM tester reads 10ppm or more (always switch off the power before checking PPM)*.
Temperature and how much electrolyte is in the water determine how long the generator will need to left switched on. More heat = quicker time. More electrolyte = quicker time. I’m in the UK now and it’s cold in the kitchen, so it takes around 8 hours to make up a 5 litre batch. That’s not a problem because it’s a plug-in kit, if I was relying on batteries I’d either heat the water, add more electrolyte (probably a few grains of table salt added to a tablespoon of water) or use re-chargeable batteries. Adding the salt makes the process far quicker but you end up with silver chloride not colloidal silver. Silver chloride is also amazing and has numerous health benefits (I drank it for over 10 years). But…I’m into making ‘true’ colloidal silver now (could be just a phase I’m going through), so I just put the generator on in the morning and come back home in the evening to check the PPM. Usually it’s around 10ppm or more by then. If the colloidal silver is exposed to light, it will turn a golden/yellow colour as the PPM rises above 5 or 6. If not, it will remain fairly clear. Either way, you’ve made true colloidal silver.
In another post I mentioned ‘pickling’ the jar before making the colloidal silver. This is because some types of glass jar don’t work for making colloidal silver until they are ‘pickled’ first. Using the plastic bottle that de-ionised water comes in is very practical and works fine without ‘pickling’. I would however suggest pouring the final liquid into glass jars as plastic containers tend to reduce the PPM quicker over time than glass. Brown glass is the best. I go to my local Wetherspoons pub to get free glass bottles, which I then sterilise and refill with my colloidal silver. In return I told the manager that any staff can have a free bottle of colloidal silver if they should want it.

Colloidal silver overview
What is it? A colloid is a particle that is so small it can fit inside a human cell. Colloidal silver refers to the electrical suspension of colloids of pure silver in water.
What does it do? It strengthens the immune system, purges accumulated toxins and kills harmful parasites/bacteria/fungus in (and on) the body.
What is it good for? In scientific studies*, colloidal silver has been shown to kill 650 pathogens within 6 minutes of contact making it extremely broad spectrum in its application. Drink it, inhale it, rub it on to the skin, spray it around the house or give it animals.
How should I take it? Sip it from the bottle or mix with water. Swill it around the mouth to kill bacteria before swallowing. Rub on to the skin or even use as an eye wash.
How much should I take? 10-25ml per day per day should suffice for preventative measures. To beat illness, sip regularly throughout the day. ‘A little and often’ is the best approach as unused silver will pass through the body in urine and sweat etc.
Are the any contra-indications? Silver is harmless even at high doses and can be used safely alongside other medications. It is recommended to take some kind of probiotic (such a live, organic yoghurt) if you are drinking larger amounts of colloidal silver each day (e.g over 100ml).
How does it work? Nobody can be sure at the present time. One of the more plausible scientific explanation so far is that colloidal silver disables the enzyme that allows oxygen to metabolise in the offending pathogen (it suffocates it).
What conditions is it good for? Prevention. Daily drinking of colloidal silver acts as a ‘second immune system’ for the body. You will look better, feel better and perform better as a result.
Soil deficiency. The NPK soil fertilizer formula does not contain silver and thus nearly all of us are silver deficient. The best way to build up silver levels within the body is to ingest colloidal silver daily.

• All along the frontier, silver dollars were put in milk to keep it fresh. Some of us remember our grandparents doing the same.
• Silver leaf was used to combat infection in wounds sustained by troops during World War I.
• Prior to the introduction of antibiotics, Colloidal Silver was used widely in hospitals and has been known as a bactericide for at least 1200 years.
• In the early 1800s, doctors used silver sutures in surgical wounds with very successful results.
• In Ayurvedic medicine, silver is used in small amounts as a tonic, elixir or rejuvenative agent for patients debilitated by age or disease.
Silver Re-Discovered
Not until the late 1800’s did western scientists re-discover what had been known for thousands of years – that silver is a powerful germ fighter. Medicinal silver compounds were then developed and silver became commonly used as a medicine. By the early part of the 1900s, the use of silver as an antibacterial substance was becoming widespread. By 1940 there were approximately four dozen different silver compounds on the market being used to treat every known infectious disease. These were available in oral, injectable, and topical forms.
Although there were a few flare-ups of negative publicity regarding medicinal silver in the early 1900s, (due to the overuse of certain types of protein-bound silver compounds causing a discoloration of the skin called argyria and due to a supply of improperly prepared and unstable silver) reputable medical journal reports demonstrated that a properly prepared colloidal dispersion of silver was completely suitable with no adverse side effects. T. H. Anderson Wells reported in the Lancet (February 16th, 1918) that a preparation of colloidal silver was “used intravenously. . . without any irritation of the kidneys and with no pigmentation of the skin. ”
New knowledge of body chemistry gave rise to the enormous array of applications for colloidal disinfectants and medicines and for on-going research into the capabilities and possibilities for silver colloids. However, Silver’s “new-found” fame as a superior infection-fighting agent was short lived.
How Silver Lost Favor
During the 1930s, synthetically manufactured drugs began to make their appearance and the profits, together with the simplicities of manufacturing this new source of treatment, became a powerful force in the marketplace. There was much excitement over the new ‘wonder drugs’ and at that time, no antibiotic-resistant strains of disease organisms had surfaced. Silver quickly lost its status to modern antibiotics.
On-going Users of Colloidal Silver
The use of some silver preparations in mainstream medicine survived. Among them are the use of dilute silver nitrate in newborn babies’ eyes to protect from infection and the use of “Silvadine,” a silver based salve, in virtually every burn ward in America to kill infection. A new silver based bandage has recently been approved by the FDA and licensed for sale. Other uses that did not lose favor include:
• Silver water purification filters and tablets are manufactured in Switzerland and used by many national and international airlines to prevent growth of algae and bacteria.
• Electrical ionization units that impregnate the water with silver and copper ions are used to sanitize pool water without the harsh effects of chlorine.
• The former Soviet Union used silver to sterilize recycled water on their space vehicles.
• The Swiss use silver filters in homes and offices.
• Some U.S. municipalities use silver in treatment of sewage.
• In the Japanese work place, silver is a popular agent in the fight against airborne toxins as well other industrial poisons.
But for the most part, with the discovery of pharmaceutical antibiotics, interest in Silver as an anti-microbial agent declined almost to the point of extinction.
The Resurgence of Silver in Medicine
The return of silver to conventional medicine began in the 1970s. The late Dr. Carl Moyer, chairman of Washington University’s Department of Surgery, received a grant to develop better methods of treatment for burn victims. Dr. Margraf, as the chief biochemist, worked with Dr. Moyer and other surgeons to find an antiseptic strong enough, yet safe to use over large areas of the body. Dr. Margraf investigated 22 antiseptic compounds and found drawbacks in all of them.
Reviewing earlier medical literature, Dr. Margraf found continual references to the use of silver. However, since concentrated silver nitrate is both corrosive and painful, he diluted the silver to a .5 percent solution and found that it killed invasive burn bacteria and permitted wounds to heal. Importantly, resistant strains did not appear. But, silver nitrate was far from ideal. So research continued for more suitable silver preparations.
Silver sulphadiazine (Silvadene, Marion Laboratories) is now used in 70 percent of burn centers in America. Discovered by Dr. Charles Fox of Columbia University, sulphadiazine has also been successful in treating cholera, malaria and syphilis. It also stops the herpes virus, which is responsible for cold sores, shingles and worse.
Results show Colloidal Silver to be highly germicidal, yet harmless and non-toxic to humans. More importantly, research shows excellent results with an astonishing array of bacterial, viral and fungal conditions.
Colloidal Silver: Expert Opinions
Because of the research showing colloidal silver’s superior performance in fighting microbes, it has attracted the attention of leading scientists and medical researchers throughout the world. Its benefits are now stirring new interest as 50 prominent doctors are currently researching the efficacy and applications of colloidal silver in human health. As a result, many interesting studies have emerged.
As stated earlier, according to experts, no microorganism ever tested has been able to stay alive for more than six minutes when exposed directly to colloidal silver.
Science Digest cites colloidal silver as “…a wonder of modern medicine,” and further states “Antibiotics kill perhaps a half dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic. Colloidal silver, used as an anti-microbial agent, will not create super bugs as antibiotics do.”
Alfred Searle, founder of the giant Searle Pharmaceuticals (now Monsanto) stated, “Applying colloidal silver to human subjects has been done in a large number of cases with astonishingly successful results. For internal administration … it has the advantage being rapidly fatal to pathogens without toxic action on its host. It is quite stable.” Further information indicates that Colloidal Silver does not cause harmful interactions with other medications or topical treatments.
In laboratory tests with colloidal silver, bacteria, viruses, and fungal organisms are killed within minutes of contact. Larry C. Ford, M.D. of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UCLA School of Medicine, Centre For The Health Sciences reported in November 1, 1988, ” I tested them (the silver solutions) using standard anti-microbial tests for disinfectants. The silver solutions were anti-bacterial for concentrations of 105 organisms per ml of Streptococcus Pyogenes, Staphylococcus Aureus, Neisseria Gonorrhea, Gardnerella Vaginalis, Salmonella Typhi and other enteric pathogens, and fungicidal for Candida Albicans, Candida Globata and M. Furfur.”
Because of the many organisms that have developed strains resistant to modern antibiotics, Dr. Robert Becker’s finding is of particular importance. Becker, of Syracuse University stated, “All of the organisms that we tested were sensitive to the electrically generated silver ions, including some that were resistant to all known antibiotics…In no case were any undesirable side effects of the silver treatment apparent.”
Everything Old Is New Again
Some researchers, such as Dr. Leonard Keene Hirschberg, A.M., M.D. of Johns Hopkins, believe that the potential of colloidal silver is just beginning to be discovered. Unlike antibiotics, which are specific only to bacteria, Colloidal Silver disables certain enzymes needed by anaerobic bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and fungus resulting in the destruction of these enzymes.
Further indication is that these bacteria cannot develop a resistance to silver, as they do with antibiotics, because silver attacks their food source, rather than them directly.

Shopping list for people who want to make their own colloidal silver generator
Here at the Simple Truths Foundation we’re really into making large batches of home-made colloidal silver and distributing it to friends, family and acquaintances. I’ve personally been doing it for over 15 years and have made many mistakes in the past. In order that others can make their own in the easiest, cheapest way possible I have created docs/pics etc that explain the ABC of how to make it (see ‘files’ section of the ‘colloidal silver success stories’ Facebook group or the colloidal silver articles in this blog). In a nutshell, here is a list of core equipment that you will need to obtain so you can put together your own kit.
AN ADAPTER/WALLWART that is at least 12VDC (12 volts of direct current), preferably with around 1000mA+ (1 amp). Less amperage is ok though. These can very easily be purchased in electrical shops or online. An old laptop charger will also work fine. Here is an example of one.
CLIPS: 2 crocodile/alligator clips. These are easily found on Ebay or any decent electrical shop. For example here.
SILVER: 2 lengths of pure (999) silver wire or jewellers bezel. I live in the UK so I get mine from Cookson Gold in London (they have a very comprehensive website/e-shop). Steve LaFontaine of the colloidal silver success stories is from the US and recommends a company called ‘Rio Grande’ – with this company apparently it’s best not to mention that you are using the wire/bezel to make colloidal silver. The product I buy can be found here. Steve LaFonataine of the ‘colloidal silver’ facebook group (recommended) gets his silver bezel from a company called ‘Rio Grande’ in the US. Click here.
A TDS (TOTAL DISOLVED SOLIDS METER): This measures the PPM (parts per million) of your colloidal silver. Take a reading of the water before you start making it and one at the end. Subtract the first reading from the second and you have the correct PPM reading for your brew. These can be bought cheaply online at Ebay, just put ‘tds meter’ into the search bar.
WATER: Some distilled or deionised water. In the US, distilled water is very easy to find whereas in the UK it’s much easier to find deionised. Both work fine to make colloidal silver. In the UK it cost around £3-5 for 5 litres, in the US it is cheaper.
CLEANING PADS/CLOTH: A ‘jiffi’ pad or a metallic scrubbing pad and some regular cloth. The Jiffi pad is coarse and good for scrubbing the silver wires after they have been used (a grey/black residue will form on then during the making process). The regular cloth can be used for a final wipe-down.
BOTTLE TOPS: Suitable for both beer/cider bottles and wine bottles. These can be purchased from beer brewing shops such as this one.
STERILISING TABLETS: I put a couple of these in a washing up bowl full of hot water before leaving used bottles in it for an hour or so. This makes sure any residue is cleaned from the bottles and also makes it much easier to remove the labels. Sterilising is not strictly necessary if you clean out the bottle with hot water as soon as you’ve finished drinking the alcohol. These can be purchased in the baby section of a pharmacy.
COFFEE FILTER PAPER: It’s fairly normal for little bits of oxidised silver to collect at the bottom of the container after making so it makes sense to filter the final product before bottling.
4 X CLIPS + CONNECTING WIRE: This is used to connect 2 or more 9-volt batteries to the wires. It can also be used to convert another electrical power cable (for example an old laptop charger) in a colloidal silver generator. Simply cut off the end, strip the wires back so the cable is exposed and clips the 2 wires to the exposed cable.
LOLLYOP STICKS: 2 of these taped together in the middle makes a useful silver wire holder. Not necessary as it is usually easy to clip the wires directly to the rim/mouth of the vessel used to make it in.
The generator kit that the STF (Simple Truths Foundation) currently sells for £62.50 is pictured at the top of this post. It’s got everything needed to make colloidal silver using a wallwart/adapter and batteries. The only thing it doesn’t contain is the distilled/deionised water and a vessel for making it in. Production cost (minus labour) is about half the retail price. We’d much rather that people copy what we do and make/distribute their own kits. If however, for whatever reason, someone wants to buy a kit from us they are always available at our online shop or Ebay. If you want to order one, please buy from the online so we can avoid paying the 10% Ebay commission.

How do you get dehydrated?
Through activities of daily living, the average person loses about 3- 4 liters (about 10-15 cups) of fluid a day in sweat, urine, exhaled air and bowel movement. What is lost must be replaced by the water/ fluid we drink and the food we eat.
We lose approximately 1-2 liters of water just from breathing. The evaporation of sweat from the skin accounts for 90% of our cooling ability.
Exercise, sweating, diarrhea, temperature, or altitude can significantly increase the amount of water we lose each day. The most common cause of increased water loss is exercise and sweating. Even though we are all at risk of dehydration the people most vulnerable are infants, elderly adults, and athletes. They are either not able to adequately express their thirst sensation or able to detect it and do something in time.
